Chemistry I – We will continue practicing dimensional analysis as well as using sig figs and our accuracy and precision of data skills.  Specific heat is explored further with a lab using metal pieces to identify the metal based on its specific heat.

Advanced Chemistry – We are finishing up stoichiometry and molarity with an assessment TEST Wednesday.  Meanwhile we are learning about molecular geometry using WebMO 3D computational chemistry program to draw and analyze molecular structures.  More Lewis Structures are drawn throughout the week.

Chemistry I - This week we will continue our measurement unit, focusing on percent error and specific gravity and practice dimensional analysis, scientific notation, and using significant digits.  Quizzes will be used to assess conversion factor understanding and we will prepare for the specific heat lab.

Chemistry - This week we will continue our measurement unit, focusing on dimensional analysis, scientific notation, calculating with exponents, and using significant digits.  A series of problems sets using conversion factors helps combine all these important ideas.  Last week we created a three-layer density column in a test tube using just sugar, water, and food coloring – the creations were very colorful an impressive!

Advanced Chemistry - This week we will finish our molarity and stoichiometry unit with various quizzes as assessments before the test.  The Molarity Lab showed students how to prepare solutions.  Our next unit is from last year – molecular geometry – and we will start our study in to bond types, angles, hybridization, and structures using WebMO, a computational chemistry drawing tool, to design and analyze many molecules.
