WEEK 10 - Lesson Plans for 3/6 -
3/9
Chemistry I - As we continue looking at the difference
between polar covalent, non-polar covalent, and ionic compounds both
quantitatively and qualitatively, students will continue naming and writing
formulas of each. Lewis structures are
introduced, implementing our past knowledge of electron dot notation. The Penny Lab has students dropping water
droplets on to a penny to look at the properties of water due to hydrogen
bonding. This gets pretty competitive
and exciting!
Monday:
1. grade naming #3
2. quiz over electronegativity
and naming and writing formulae
3. writing #3 due tomorrow
4. Ionic Labs due
5. turnitin due by midnight
6. Penny Lab due tomorrow
7. Naming Review due Thursday
Tuesday:
1. grade writing #3
2. Penny Lab due
3. begin Lewis Structures notes
4. Lewis I due Friday
Weds:
1. quiz
2. continue Lewis structure
notes
3. Naming Review due tomorrow
4. Lewis I worksheet due Friday
Thursday:
1. grade review
2. continue notes on Lewis
Structures
3. Lewis I due tomorrow
4. Lewis II due Monday
Friday:
1.
grade Lewis I
2.
Lewis II due Monday
Adv. Chemistry - After ending the acid-base unit, we dive
into Thermochemistry and review specific heat, adding the concept of enthalpy,
heats of formation, and heats of combustion.
Monday:
1. finish acid-base test
2. Mpemba article due Friday
Tuesday:
1. start thermochemistry notes thru heat
capacity
2. specific heat worksheet due Thursday
3. give out new ion list based on solubility
rules
4. old ion quiz tomorrow
Weds:
1. Notes on ice changing to steam
2. HOF/HOV problems due Monday
3. Bozeman 53
Thursday:
1. Thermodynamics Lab tomorrow
2. HOF/HOV problems due Monday
3. continue notes over heats of formation and
Hess' Law
Friday: Thermodynamics Lab
AP Chemistry - This week will
focus on practice free responses for the thermochemistry review unit as well as
continuing on with the electrochemistry of the galvanic cell. The Nernst equation is added, bringing back
our old friend "Q" from the equilibrium unit. Mr. Smith's manufacturing class will be visiting
us early next week to create polymers with Chemistry Club and then we will
visit their lab next week to see some of the neat things they make and the
equipment they use in Manufacturing. We
will practice our labs for that visit
Monday:
1. Continue notes on Nernst
2. Nernst problems due Weds
3. ion electron method due
tomorrow
4. Electron potential homework
due tomorrow
Tuesday:
1. Thermo Review Back
2. go over electron potential
homework
3. Free Response Quiz over it Friday
over galvanic cells
4. ion quiz tomorrow
5. Nernst due tomorrow
Weds:
1. ion quiz
2. grade Nernst problems
3. quiz tomorrow over it
4. Free energy notes
Thursday:
1. Ion quiz Back
