Week Five: 2/4– 2/8 Lesson Plans

Week Five:  2/4– 2/8 Lesson Plans

Chemistry I - This week will focus on using notations to predict the reactivity and properties of an element based on the atom's electron configuration.  We will use quantum number theory to assign a position to the last electron in a particular element's orbit.  Students will analyze and apply a prison building as a model for the atomic quantum number theory instead of the hotel analogy used in the beginning of the unit.  We will also look back at our atomic diagrams that students did before the unit to see how much we have learned over the past three units.

Monday:
1.  grade quantum numbers
2.  4.3/POMS quiz tomorrow
3.  notations practice quiz due tomorrow
4.  chapter 4 review due Thursday
5.  laser lab back
6.  notations quiz
7.  Periodic Properties I worksheet due Weds

Tuesday:
1.      Grade notations practice quiz
2.      Notations quiz back
3.      4.3/POMS quiz
4.      analogy and artist time due
5.      chapter 4 review sheet

Wednesday:
1.  POMS quiz back
2.  Periodic Properties I worksheet due and grade
3.  prison analogy and atom drawing discussed in small groups and as a class
4.  Ch 4 Review due Monday

Thurs:

1.  Ch 4 Review due Monday
2.  Alkali Metal pre-lab
3.  Periodic Properties II worksheet due and grade

Adv. Chemistry - Continuing our journey into acids and bases, we will review naming rules and introduce the concept of titration to find out how strong and concentrated an unknown acid or base may be using experimental data.  This will be done first using a virtual lab program on the computer, then we will try it in the wet lab.  The virtual experience limits chemical waste and mistakes during the wet lab, showing students what to expect and introducing them to the equipment.  Weekly ion quizzes will start to prepare students for naming acids and bases as well as learning the upcoming solubility unit rules.

Monday:
1.  acids and bases lab back
2.  quiz over strong acids and strong bases tomorrow
3.  notes thru titration
4.  naming bases review due tomorrow

Tuesday:
1.  strong acids /strong bases quiz
2.  naming bases worksheet due tomorrow
3.  continue notes into titration
4.  ion quiz Friday

Wednesday:
1.  grade naming bases review
2.  continue notes on titration
3.  titration worksheets 1 and 2 due Monday

Thursday:
1.  finish notes on titration
2.  start virtual titration lab - due Friday

Friday:
1.  ion quiz
2.  finish virtual lab
