Weeks 14 and 15 Lesson Plans for Chemistry for November 13th - 17th, November 20th and 21st

Weeks 14 and 15 Lesson Plans for Chemistry I for November 13th - 17th, November 20th and 21st
Assessment for the Measurement Unit will be a two part test combining dimensional analysis with significant figures, metric system, specific heat, scientific notation, and rounding rules - with everything in between!  The atom will be explored in chapter 3.  Students were asked to draw a Manganese atom, labeling where the protons, electrons, neutrons, and nucleus are located as well as a way to key them out in the drawing.  This activity inspires the students to learn more about these subatomic particles and shows them that it has been a while since they last visited the atom.  The concept of the mol (an amount of substance) will be introduced in a lab.
Monday:

Weeks 14 and 15 Lesson Plans for Chemistry II for November 13th - 17th, November 20th and 21st
We will continue our unit in Nuclear Chemistry, focusing on the different types of radioactive decay and its effects on human tissue.   Three Mile Island and Chernobyl will be discussed as well as the concept of half-life.  An assessment on nuclear stability where one compares the stability of different isotopes to pick the more stable one will be given.  Students will need to begin studying the different types of particles, their symbols, and their charges and masses.

Weeks 14 and 15 Lesson Plans for AP Chem for November 13th - 17th, November 20th and 21st
Students will prepare for the 53 5th Graders from Crestwood visit on Wednesday in the Physical and Chemical Properties and Changes Presentation.  The kinetics unit will continue as we work example kinetics problems through lecture and problems to distinguish between zero thru third order reaction rates problems.  Labs will emphasize the value of a controlled experiment, especially when time is the variable in question.
Monday:
1.  Prepare each part of the presentation for the 5th graders visit.
2.  Continue kinetics examples in notes

Tuesday:
1.  rates of reactions notes thru graphs
2.  kinetics I due Friday

Weds:  5th graders visit!
