Week 16 Chemistry Plans 2017

Week 16 Chemistry Plans 2017
Lesson Plans for Chemistry I for November 27th - Dec 1st
This week will continue exploring subatomic particles and their uses in experiments using the Large Hadron Collider.  Students will write a short paragraph on a topic of their choice pertaining to the results of this ongoing study.  Converting atoms to mols to mass will revisit dimensional analysis and apply that knowledge to how scientists average isotopic mass on the periodic table.  Several assessments will be given to check on understanding of the concept of the mol, hyphen and nuclear symbol notation, and conversion factors.

Lesson Plans for Adv. Chemistry  for November 27th - Dec 1st
We will continue our unit in Nuclear Chemistry, focusing on the different types of radioactive decay and its effects on human tissue.   Three Mile Island and Chernobyl will be discussed as well as the concept of half-life.  An assessment on nuclear stability where one compares the stability of different isotopes to pick the more stable one will be given.  Students will need to begin studying the different types of particles, their symbols, and their charges and masses.
