Chemistry I – Last week we were in the Physical and Chemical Properties Lab – introducing the students to Unit II and the format of writing lab reports.  The lab was the cue set for the new chapter and lecture.  Lab reports will assess writing and data evaluation skills.

Tuesday and Thursday:  Bring books this week!

Common Core Standards:

RST.9-10.4.  Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context relevant to grades 9–10 texts and topics.

RST.9-10.5.  Analyze the structure of the relationships among concepts in a text, including relationships among key terms (e.g., force, friction, reaction force, energy).

Advanced Chemistry  - Writing, balancing, and identifying reactions are assessed with the decomposition lab, single and double replacement labs, and multiple demonstrations.  Formula weight and percent composition are discussed as we prepare for stoichiometry.

Common Core Standards:  4a)  Design and carry out an experiment- Chemistry is a lab oriented course.  Students collect and analyze data and then report their conclusions.

AP Chemistry:   This week we will continue applying solubility rules of ions.   A lab predicting and determining precipitation reactions is used as an assessment of net ionic equation assessment as well as preparation for the Solubility Exam.
