Week 6 Lesson Plans September 21st- 25th

Week 6 Lesson Plans September 21st- 25th

Chemistry  - We are continuing our measurement unit and focusing on good lab skills to show accuracy and precision and making good measuring decisions.  Last week we considered various types of measuring devices available in lab during the Measurement Lab to see if the beaker, graduated cylinder, or the buret is a more precise tool of measuring volume.  We will continue these practices with our next lab – The Energy of Foods Lab.  A look at a computational chemistry program called WebMO will allow us to create the glucose molecule and predict the amount of energy it takes to form such a molecule.  In the Energy of Foods Lab we will them burn the glucose in the form of a marshmallow to calculate the amount of energy such a carbohydrate gives off.  The calculator is also explored as we go over scientific notation and exponents.
