Chemistry I - As we continue naming and writing formulae for ionic and covalent compounds, we will have labs reflecting both.  Ionic compounds will be made and examined in the Ionic Bond Lab and the covalent compound, water, will be tested to examine the special properties of this polar molecule.

Adv. Chemistry – Thermochemistry continues as we look at Hess’s Law and the energy needed to change from a solid to liquid to gas and the heats of fusion and vaporization required.  Labs on thermodynamics will explore both endothermic and exothermic reactions.

WEEK 8 -  Lesson Plans for Feb 23-27

Chemistry I - Students will continue to learn the different types of bonding and how to predict which type will occur.  We will explore intermolecular and intramolecular forces that hold molecules together.  Practicing naming and writing formulae is a very important skill.

Monday:

Adv. Chemistry  - The idea of an equilibrium constant to find the pH of weak acids, which do not break apart like strong acids do, is explored.  We will dust off the quadratic formula - MATH RULES!

Students will continue to explore equilibrium shifts and finding equilibrium expressions for a variety of AP Free Response problems.  The solubility product equilibrium constant will be introduced and several short assessments will be given to test understanding of solubility and which product will precipitate first.
