Advanced Chemistry - We will continue our unit in Nuclear Chemistry, focusing on the different types of radioactive decay and its effects on human tissue.   Three Mile Island and Chernobyl will be discussed as well as the concept of half-life.  A half-life simulation using Skittles is performed to plot out and graph half-life.  An assessment on nuclear stability where one compares the stability of different isotopes to pick the more stable one will be given.  Students will need to begin studying the different types of particles, their symbols, and their charges and masses.

AP Chemistry -  Students will finish the week preparing for the end of the unit test on Thursday.  We will work on more Ksp problems and assessments.  Review Chapter 3 – Nuclear Chemistry - will be returned.  WYSE Wednesday is established where we practice for the WYSE Chemistry test individually trying some problems and then breaking into smarty pants groups to share and discuss before going over the answers.

WEEK 15:  Lesson Plans for November 19th - 20th
Chemistry - We finished the measurement unit with a 2 day test and are beginning to learn about the atom and its discovery.  Students were given a pre-test on drawing a picture of the iron atom and labeling the protons, neutrons, electrons, and nucleus as well as answering questions about its outer shell electrons and bonding potential.  At the end of the unit, this model will be examined again by the students to see if we are able to improve upon it.

CHEMISTRY I  - This week we are preparing for our measurement unit test and finishing up with a lab over the specific heats of metals.  Short assessments are given over dimensional analysis and significant digits in rounding.  Chapter 3 introduces the concept of the atom so we prepare with a pre-test to see what knowledge the students have.

CHEMISTRY II - The gas law chapter ends with a test for assessment.  This week we also begin a look into nuclear chemistry and how it has impacted history.  Nuclear stability will be investigated as students predict which isotopes are more stable than others based on the proton-neutron ratio and other factors.

AP CHEMISTRY
This week will finish up solubility constant equilibrium, a concept that will be revisited throughout the year while reviewing acid base chemistry and thermochemistry.  An unknown lab is performed where students are given six unknown solutions and use them to match to a set of chemicals.  Solubility rules are tested in this manner.
