Week 18 Lesson Plans - December 10th – 15th

Week 18 Lesson Plans - December 10th – 15th

CHEMISTRY I - This week will finish exploring chapter 3 - the atom - with a test.  Students are continuing to explore what an atom looks like and will be comparing and contrasting models and analogies throughout chapter four as well.   We will delve into chapter 4 - light and energy - with an introduction into spectrum tubes and signature light colors of the elements.  When we return from break, the Flame Test lab will show this using fire where the spectrum tubes excite electrons using electricity.

Week 17 Lesson Plans 2018 - Dec 3rd - Dec 7th

Chemistry I - This week will continue exploring subatomic particles and their uses in experiments using the Large Hadron Collider.  Students will write a short paragraph on a topic of their choice pertaining to the results of this ongoing study.  Converting atoms to mols to mass will revisit dimensional analysis and apply that knowledge to how scientists find average isotopic mass on the periodic table.  Several assessments will be given to check on understanding of the concept of the mol, hyphen and nuclear symbol notation, and conversion factors.
