Week 12 - Lesson Plans 11/2-11/6

Week 12 - Lesson Plans 11/2-11/6

Chemistry I - Students will focus on specific heat in the completion of our measurement unit.  Dimensional analysis problems and sig fig use are still in effect.  We will finish up our Specific Heat Lab which uses a different type of calorimeter than that of the Energy of Foods Lab – a sophisticated Styrofoam calorimeter cup instead of a pop can.  Students will identity an unknown metal during the Specific Heat Lab and revisit accuracy and precision in the lab to try to minimize error.  The atom Is next and will be explored in chapter 3.  Students are asked to draw a Manganese atom, labeling where the protons, electrons, neutrons, and nucleus are located as well as a way to key them out in the drawing.  This activity inspires the students to learn more about these subatomic particles and shows them that it has been a while since they last visited the atom.
