Chemistry I - The idea of assigning quantum numbers for every individual electron in an atom is explored further as students focus on the outer shell electrons and the orbit, orbital, and spin each one has.  Quantum mechanics is introduced to show the position of each electron in the outermost orbit.

Adv. Chemistry - Naming acids and bases will be reviewed and the concept of titration to find an unknown molarity is introduced.  Ions need to be memorized in order to be able to name the acids.  Different types of acid definitions are given in order to understand how acids play a role in living systems.  The acid-base lab explores reactions of both.

WEEK 1 and 2 LESSON PLANS 2021 for Advanced Chemistry

 Advanced Chemistry – Remote week January 5th and 7th students will be able to ask questions over Gas Law Review and Gas Law Homework Set II.  These should be completed already if you were in class before break.  I will contact you if I am missing those items.  They will be the first grades for the new semester.  3rd hour meets from 10:30-11 and 5th from 11-11:30, but you can pop on anytime you’d like.  If you can’t make the chat, please text me your favorite present or things that you did over break if you haven’t already!  We will start acid and base chemistry when we return with a lab!  Remoters will need to pick up the lab kit on Tuesday pickup or arrange a pickup at my porch.  You will provide items from your household and run several tests on them.  You will need test equipment from me.

 

January 11th Monday – we will begin the acid and base unit with a lab

 

January 13th Weds- Finish lab and work on lab reports

 

January 15th Friday – we will have an 11:30 dismissal so shortened periods

WEEK 1 and 2 LESSON PLANS 2021 FOR CHEMISTRY

 

Chemistry – Remote week January 6th and 8th students will watch video notes posted on google classroom if you were remote or absent over chapter four material.

January 6th Wednesday– google classroom meetings every half hour from 10-10:30 (2nd hour), 10:30-11 (4th hour), 11-11:30 (6th hour), and 11:30 – 12 (8th hour) to answer questions over the five worksheets you should have, specifically electromagnetic radiation problems.  You can join at any of these time.  If you cannot be there, please send me a text with your favorite present you received or something fun that you did if I haven’t already spoken with you!

Check google classroom for the worksheets and also for the video notes over chapter 4.  Flame test lab reports were due before break so if you haven’t completed the lab you need to contact me immediately.  The lab report will be the first grade for the new semester.

January 8th Thursday– google classroom meetings as above to answer questions over Planck’s problems.  Please watch the video notes and try the homework before the meeting to see if you have questions. 

January 12th Tuesday – we will grade electromagnetic radiation homework and take a quiz over it.   Notes will continue over chapter four and lab reports will be handed out.

January 14th Thursday- we will grade planck’s problems and take a quiz over it.  Notes over the Aufbau principal, Hund’s Rule, and Pauli’s Exclusion Principal are further explored.

January 15th Friday – we will have an 11:30 dismissal so shortened periods.

Chemistry I - This week will finish chapter three – the atom with a test assessment and begin discussing the electron cloud and electron arrangement around the nucleus.  Students will excite electrons with electricity during the spectrum tube lab as well as with fire during the flame test lab.

Chemistry I - This week will wrap up chapter 3 and the atom, leading in to chapter 4 which focuses on the electron and energy.  Converting atoms to mols to mass will revisit dimensional analysis and apply that knowledge to how scientists find average isotopic mass on the periodic table.  Several assessments will be given to check on understanding of the concept of the mol, hyphen and nuclear symbol notation, and conversion factors.
